John D. Hansvick, age 82 of Henderson, passed away peacefully at home on September 16, 2025.
John was born on November 18, 1942 in Minneapolis, MN to Floyd and Helma (Rekedal) Hansvick. He was raised on the family farm in Belview. He graduated from Belview High School in 1960 and attended Mankato State University until 1962. He joined the United States Naval Air Reserve in 1964. John married the love of his life, LaJoy Kruse, on April 12, 1969. Together they raised their beloved daughter, Penny.
For most of his career he worked as a field engineer, specializing in computer and electronic projects for several companies, including Univac, Consolidated Design, Burroughs Corporation, and Lockheed Martin. He also farmed in Vesta, MN from 1975 to 1978, before returning to engineering. His work brought his family from Minneapolis to Maryland, then to Ontario, and finally back to Minnesota, where they lived for many years in Burnsville. After his retirement in 2004 he and LaJoy moved to Henderson. He enjoyed tinkering away on projects at home with computers, electronics, magnetic circuits, really anything that he could try to figure out and make himself. He was a free thinker and enjoyed learning about something to its full extent. Not only was he very intellectual but those who loved him saw his deep kindness, generosity and gentle soul.
John is survived by his daughter, Penny Swanson of Jordan, MN; granddaughters, Sonja and Elsa Swanson; Sonja and Elsa’s dad, Craig Swanson; and sister, Jean Pladson of Fargo, North Dakota.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Helma Hansvick, and wife, LaJoy Hansvick (2023.)
Funeral Service will be held Monday, September 22, 2025 at Rock Valle Lutheran Church in Echo, MN at 11:00 A.M. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services. Interment in Rock Valle Cemetery, Echo, MN.
