John R. Wentworth

October 26, 1926 — February 2, 2016

John Raymond Wentworth, age 89 of St. Peter and formerly of LeSueur was called home February 2, 2016. He was born on October 26, 1926 in Ledyard, Iowa to Raymond and Alberdena (Sleeper-Lamping) Wentworth. He graduated from Grant High School and served in the Air Force during World War II, serving from 1946 to 1947. After his discharge he attained education to become an electrician. John married Delores Rasheed on August 7, 1950 at the Little Brown Church in the Vale in Nashua, IA. They shared 57 years together and had 5 children. John worked as an electrician for the Green Giant Company for over 30 years, starting in Blue Earth and retiring in LeSueur. His enjoyment in life came from his love of family, spending time outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping, tinkering in the garage and in later years going to the cabin. His philanthropy in life was serving people and God in many avenues; Blue Earth Fire Department, LeSueur Ambulance Association, LeSueur Planning Commission, the LeSueur United Methodist Church and many Masonic organizations including Union Lodge # 45 of LeSueur, Nicollet Lodge # 54, LeSueur Chapter # 37, Commandery Knights Templar of MN, Zurah Temple in Minneapolis, Cereal and Vera Chapters of the Order of the Eastern Star. John volunteered at the St. Lawrence State Park near Jordan for 13 years, the Minnesota Zoo for 6 years and the General Mills Retirement Committee. He is survived by his daughters, Denise Schlueter of New Braunfels, TX, Lisa (Don) Lindeman of LeSueur and son, Kim (significant other, LuAnn Winchester) of Chaska; 11 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Lillian Hamlin of Satelitte Beach,FL, Pearl Lilyard of Virginia Beach, VA and Vivian McDermott of Owatonna, MN and 2 brothers, Delbert (Joyce) Wentworth of Lakota, IA and Butch (Henrietta) Wentworth of Hutchinson, MN. He was preceded in death by wife, Delores in 2007 and sons, John and Alan; 2 brothers, Harold and Donald, a sister, Iona Richardson, and son-in-law, Roland Schlueter. Funeral services will be held at the United Methodist in LeSueur on Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2016 at 11 a.m.. Interment, at a later date, will be in the Riverside Cemetery in Blue Earth. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday at the Kolden Funeral Home, concluding with an Eastern Star Service and a Masonic Commandery Service. Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be given to the Masonic Cancer Center of Minnesota or St. Croix Hospice of Mankato.
