Joseph Madlo, age 87 of Belle Plaine, died on Monday, August 30, 2010 at Queen of Peace Hospital in New Prague. Funeral Service will be at 11a.m. on Thursday, September 2, 2010 at St. John Lutheran Church in Belle Plaine, Rev. Mark Johnson will officiate. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service at church. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Belle Plaine. Joe was born on November 17, 1922 in Silver Lake, Minnesota to Joseph and Martha (Yanchek) Madlo. His parents were Czech immigrants and Joe didn't speak English until he started school. When he was 13 yrs old he left home and worked as a hired man for Helmet Reinke, Roger Hillstrom. Joe lived and worked for Civilian Conservation Corps, near Jordan, before being drafted to Saipan during WWII. After returning from the war, Joe bought a Harley Davidson Motorcycle and rode it to California. While in California, Joe worked in an airplane factory. When he returned to Minnesota, he married Rose Ida Bessel on November 18, 1944 at St. John Lutheran Church in Belle Plaine. They lived on the family farm for 62 years in Belle Plaine. Joe enjoyed dairy farming and driving tractor for Dale in his later years. He loved spending time with his grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Dale; granddaughter, Clara and brother, Stanley. He is survived by his Wife Rose, Children, Carol (Dave) Preuhs of Le Center, MN, Gloria (Leon) Volek of Belle Plaine, MN, Ron (Sharon) Madlo of Longview IL; 14 Grandchildren; 10 Great Grandchildren; Sister, Martha Wilkins of Silver Lake and many Nieces and Nephews.
