Laverna Borchert

LaVerna Borchert, age 80 of Winthrop died Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at Golden Hearts Assisted Living Center in Arlington. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 9, 2015 at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in Winthrop. Visitation will be 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, January 8th and one hour prior to service time Friday all at the church. Interment will be in The Winthrop Cemetery. www.koldenfuneralhome.com LaVerna Lois was born on April 26, 1934 to Leonard and Berdina (Schiro) Uecker on the family farm in Penn Township, McLeod County. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Penn Township. LaVerna attended District #64 rural schools. On September 7, 1951 she married LuVerne Harold Borchert at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Penn Township. To this union were born three sons, Randal (1952), Greggory (1961) and David (1968). LaVerna had various employment throughout life which included helping her husband with farming in Transit Township, Sibley County, working many years for Trebelhorn and Associates and culminating with her banking position with the Winthrop State Bank which ended her working career in 1999. She had a passion for cleaning, loved playing cards and dancing. She was a longtime member of Zion Ev. Lutheran Church, a former Sunday School teacher and an honorary member of its Ladies Aid. LaVerna was currently a member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the VFW Post #6031 of Arlington. After failing health was discovered in fall 2011and when she needed assistance with daily living she became a resident of Oak Terrace Assisted Living in Gaylord on September 7, 2012 and transferred to Golden Hearts Assisted Living in Arlington on July 23, 2014. LaVerna is preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Randal and grandson Aaron. She is survived by two sons, Greggory (Royla) of Arlington and David (Karrie) of New Ulm, granddaughter Sara Borchert of Duluth and grandson Dylan of New Ulm, brother Reginald (Kathleen) Uecker of Brownton, nieces, nephews and cousins.
