Lawrence Leroy Johnson, died at his home on Saturday, September 5, 2015. Funeral services will be on Friday, Sept. 11, 2015, 11:00 a.m, First Lutheran Church in Le Sueur. Visitation will be on Thursday, Sept. 10, 2015 at the Kolden Funeral Home in Le Sueur form 4:00 p.m. ~ 8:00 p.m. and also 1 hour prior to the services at church. Interment with military honors will follow at Mound Cemetery in Le Sueur. Rev. Carl Bruihler will officiate the services. Lawrence was born in Huron, SD June 27 1926, to Lawrence and Myrtle (Hansen) Johnson. He grew up in Rush River MN where he attended a one room school house. He picked up milk cans for his fathers creamery and worked odd farm jobs during his younger years. Hunting and fishing were some of his favorite hobbies as a youth. World War II called for his help and he served on the islands of Leyte and Mindanao in the Philippines. He was in heavy combat there. After the war he served in the occupation of Japan and had many adventures there. While in Japan, he rode a train through Hiroshima. He recently spoke at Fort Snelling sharing a few of his war stories to over 300 people at a round robin there. Lawrence came back home and met his soon to be bride, Joyce Bubolz. They married on November 30th 1947, they were married for fifty years. He became a plumber, a truck driver, and tried a few other jobs. He returned to plumbing and had his own business until deciding to sell it to Winters Plumbing in Le Sueur and joined the Plumbers and Gasfitters Local 34 which he continued for the rest of his working years. Lawrence was a volunteer fireman in Le Sueur for over 20 years he loved serving and the many friends he made there. Lawrence had many hobbies, hunting, fishing, bee keeping, rolling sod for sale, silver mining, trap shooting, snowmobile riding, remodeling homes, he was in a bowling league for many years. He loved card playing and the woods he owned where he built a couple of cabins. Many great family memories came from his woods. He also converted and old bus into a traveling adventure for his family. Family was always at the center of his heart, all he ever wanted was more time with family and friends. He is survived by his children; Gary (Marie) Johnson, Kathleen (John) Plaisance, Susan (Mike) Resch, Dale Johnson, Douglas Johnson & Allen (Jennifer) Johnson. 14 Grandchildren; Kenneth Johnson (Jacqueline), Kimberly Johnson, Kris Dolezal (Scott), Tammy Hischer (Jay), Shawn Plaisance (Jennifer), Jacquelyn Perry (Richard), Nicole Keefe (Jason), Amanda Resch, Theresa Swenson (Timothy), David Johnson, Jacob Johnson, Megan Krause (Zachary), Kerstyn Johnson, Chandler Johnson. 12 Great-Grandchildren - Arleen Douglas, Christian Johnson, Jacob Dolezal, Justin Dolezal, Taylor Blaschko, Tyler Blachko, Lucas Keefe , Alexis Hischer, Blake Plaisance, Madelyn Perry, Braiden Perry & Dustin Johnson & 2 Great-Great-Grandchildren. Siblings; Duane (Paula) Johnson & Merle (Pamela) Johnson & Beverly (Ronald) Krall. Many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joyce in 1998; son, Kevin; Brother, Marvin; sisters, Delores Hager and Jeanette Vanderpoel.
