Leone Berger Chevalier

Leone Chevalier, age 105, of Arlington, formerly of Green Isle, passed away Wednesday, August 17, 2011, at Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, August 23, at St. Brendan's Catholic Church in Green Isle MN, with visitation 2 hours prior to Mass at the church. Kolden Funeral Home of Arlington is handling the arrangements. Leone Berger Chevalier was born on July 26, 1906, in Jessenland Township in Sibley County, MN, to Andy and Annie (Doheny) Berger. She grew up and went to school in District 10, and graduated from Henderson High School in 1924. Leone went to Fairfax Teachers Training, and Mankato State, and taught school for 33 years; 18 years in country schools, and 15 years in Plato MN. Leone married Walter Chevalier on June 30, 1931, at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Jessenland Township. Their marriage was blessed with two sons, Maurice and Marvin. They made their home in Jessenland until 1939, when they moved to Green Isle. Leone was active in St. Brendan's Altar Society for 60 years, a charter member of Green Isle Legion Auxiliary 408 for 59 years, a chairman for the bloodmobile for 6 years, and was also active in the P.T.A., both as a teacher and a parent. She enjoyed reading, sewing, crocheting, gardening, teaching and traveling, but mostly she enjoyed her family. After her husband Walter's death in 1988, she remained in her home in Green Isle, before moving to Amberfield Place in Arlington in November of 2002. Leone is survived by her daughter-in-law, Juanita Chevalier of Owatonna, MN, nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and a sister, Marge Henrich, of Henderson, MN. Leone was preceded in death by her husband, Walter, sons, Maurice and Marvin, sister, Genevieve Trimbo, and brother and sister-in-law, Gilbert and Irene Berger.
