Lillian 'Lil' Sommers

Lillian ‘Lil' Sommers, age 91, of Arlington, died Friday, February 24, 2012, at the Arlington Good Samaritan Center in Arlington. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M, Tuesday, February 28, 2012, at Peace Lutheran Church in Arlington, with Rev. Kurt Lehmkuhl officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, February 27, 2012 at the Kolden Funeral Home in Arlington, and one hour prior to the service time at the church. Interment will be at the Arlington Public Cemetery. Lillian was born in Green Isle Township August 29, 1920, to Oscar and Doris (Sprengeler) Beneke. She was baptized and confirmed at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Hamburg. On December 10, 1939, Lillian was united in marriage to Raymond H. Sommers in Green Isle. They farmed in Washington Lake Township until 1965. She then took a job with Fingerhut for five years, and moved on to ITT Thermotech in Hopkins, where she was employed until her retirement. Lil loved her flowers, and she made many handmade quilts and also baptismal banners for Peace Lutheran Church. She also enjoyed participating in mock weddings with friends from Hamburg. Lillian is survived by her sons, Ronald (Gloria) Sommers of Rogers, AR, Larry Sommers of Green Isle, and Robert (Elaine) Sommers of Glencoe, seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings, Larry (Mabel) Beneke of Waconia, Ray (Dorothy) Beneke of Minneapolis, Myrtle Luecke of Norwood, Arlene Beneke of Hutchinson, and Delford (Sharon) Beneke of Norwood. Lillian was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ray, daughter-in-law Shirley, great granddaughter Madison Zemke, and siblings Elmer and Hillard Beneke, and Helen Thompson.
