Margaret (Hughes) Monahan

Margaret Mary Monahan, age 98, passed away on Sunday, October 15, 2023 at Cura Nursing Home of Le Sueur. Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, October 19, 2023 at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Le Sueur at 11:00 A.M. Father Chris Shofner will officiate. Visitation will be at the church from 10-11 A.M.  There will be a C.C.W. Rosary at 9:45 A.M. Following the Mass, a lunch will be served at St. Anne’s Catholic School in Le Sueur. Burial at Calvary Cemetery will be private.

Margaret was born on December 25, 1924 in Greene, Iowa to George and Emma (Logan) Hughes. She grew up in North Mankato and attended Loyola grade and high school before graduating in 1942.  After graduation, she attended St. Catherine School of Nursing where she graduated from in 1946 and was in the Cadet Nurse Corp during World War II.  She married Harold John “Pete” Monahan at Holy Rosary in North Mankato on May 28, 1947.  She shared her time as a full time Mother and also worked as a nurse at the Le Sueur Hospital and Nursing Home for many years.

She is survived by her children, Patricia (Charles) Fogarty of Le Sueur, MN, John Monahan of Palm Springs, CA, William “Bill” Monahan of Winona, MN, Joan Monahan of Eden Prairie, MN, and Julie (Patrick) Stege of Edina, MN, Son-in-law; Randy Pautz, St. Peter, MN.  10 Grandchildren, 11 Great-Grandchildren and 1 Great-Great Grandchild.

Margaret is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Pete, children, Nancy Pautz, infant son, Tommy, and great-granddaughter Emma Fogarty.

Memorials are preferred to St. Anne’s School.
