Marie Alma Voight, a lifetime resident of Arlington, Minnesota, passed away peacefully at the age of 101 on January 27, 2018 at the New Prospective of Waconia. Services will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 101 West Chandler St. Arlington, Minnesota. Family will greet friends starting at 10:30am with a service at 12:00 noon followed by a Celebration of Life after the service. Marie was born September 22, 1916 to Augusta and Fred Voight, youngest of five children in Sibley County. After attending school her various jobs included cleaning homes, candling eggs at Noack's, seasonal work at the Arlington Canning Factory, Tonka Toys, and 25 years at the Arlington Municipal Liquor store before retiring. She kept herself busy making quilts, embroidered numerous dish towels, and crocheted Afghans for her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She was a member of the Legion Auxiliary and St. Paul's Ladies Aid. In 1934 she was united in marriage to Henry Voight at St. Paul's Lutheran Church by Reverend R. Heidmann. They were blessed with five children: Jerry, Janice, Marlene, Larry and Dennis. She was preceded in death by her husband Henry in 1994; son Larry 1983; daughter Janice 2004; and son-in-law Bruce Scott 1990. She is survived by her son Jerry (Monica) Voight - Glencoe, MN, daughter Marlene Scott - Tempe AZ, son Dennis (Bev) Voight - Coeur d'Alene, ID, daughter-in-law Ruth Voight, Arlington, MN, and son-in-law Charley Johnson - Annandale, MN. She was blessed with 18 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren, along with nieces and nephews. Marie was a strong, loving person who went ‘out of her way' to help so many people who were involved in her life. She made everyone welcome in her home. She was passionate about many things but particularly in her faith, family, friends, and her needle work. She enjoyed cooking, baking, and preparing holiday celebrations with family and went all out in decorating for the holidays. Whenever a special occasion occurred that brought family together she always made her ‘famous' home made bean soup! She was an avid Arlington baseball fan and never missed a Minnesota Twins game on TV. Mom was very determined throughout her life and at the age of 100 she ‘felt she was still able to drive' to visit friends and shop! She will be truly missed by her family and friends to whom she valued very much. Memorial donations may be sent to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 101 W. Chandler St., Arlington MN 55307.
