Marilyn E. (Latzke) Laabs

Marilyn E. Laabs, age 90 of Le Sueur, died peacefully, at Oak Terrace Senior Living in Le Sueur, MN on Tuesday June 6, 2023. Memorial services to be held at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, St. Peter, MN. Monday June 26, 2023. Visitation at 10:00 AM, service at 11:00 with lunch to be served following the service. Interment will follow lunch at Mound Cemetery in Le Sueur.

Marilyn was born on January 2, 1933 in Belle Plaine, Minnesota. She grew up on a farm in rural Belle Plaine where she attended and graduated from Belle Plaine High School in 1950. She was baptized at St. John's Lutheran Church, Belle Plaine, and shared her life, confirmation, school and graduation with her sweetheart and future husband, Roger Laabs. The couple married July 28, 1951 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Belle Plaine shortly after Roger returned from bootcamp with the United States Navy. Marilyn began her career at the 1st National Bank in St. Paul as a secretary. She and Roger moved to Philadelphia for Roger’s Naval assignment where Marilyn worked at the Land Title Bank and Trust Company. The Navy brought the couple to Jacksonville, FL where their first child (Diane) was born. They returned to Le Sueur, MN in 1955 at the completion of Roger’s Naval career. Marilyn held multiple positions in the engineering and personnel departments at Green Giant company for many years. She later worked at Le Sueur Elementary Schools, assisting with the students. Marilyn and Roger enjoyed camping and traveling to bluegrass festivals in their retirement years. Marilyn also enjoyed gardening, sewing, floral arranging, embroidery and reading. Most of all she enjoyed listening and dancing to Polka music with Roger, her favorite dance partner of 69 years.

She is survived by children, Ruti / Diane (Avram) Yehoshua of Flagstaff, AZ; Robert (Barbara) Laabs of Cottage Grove, MN; Joane (Jeff) Kerkow of Livingston, TX and Daugher in law, Sarah Laabs of Chanhassen, MN. 8 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Sister-in-law, Ruth Andersen of San Diego, CA.

She is preceded in death by her husband Roger, daughter Sheryl, son John, parents Gust and Alvina Latzke, parent-in-law Arthur and Mable Laabs, brother Myron and sister-in-law Sharon Latzke, sister Beverly and brother-in-law Tony Kokoshney, brother and sister in law, David and Shirley Laabs, brother-in-law Andy Andersen.
