Mary Joanne Devine

Mary Joanne Devine, age 80 of Belle Plaine, passed away on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at the Lutheran Home in Belle Plaine. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m, Saturday, September 27, 2014 at Our Lady of the Prairie Catholic Church in Belle Plaine. Fr. Michael Kaluza will officiate. Visitation will be from 4-8p.m. on Friday at the Kolden Funeral Home in Belle Plaine and continue one hour prior to the Mass at church on Saturday morning. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Belle Plaine. Joanne was born July 22, 1934 to Michael & Joan (Martin) Daly in Arlington, MN. She grew up in Belle Plaine, MN and attended St. Peter and Paul's Catholic Parochial School and Belle Plaine High School. She later received her Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from St. Catherine's University in St. Paul, MN. She married Thomas Devine on June 29, 1957 at Sacred Heart Church in Belle Plaine, MN. She taught in Minnetonka Schools for about 7 years before her long teaching career in Belle Plaine, MN. Joanne enjoyed sewing, cooking and entertaining. What she enjoyed most was her life vocation of teaching children, her grandkids and family. She is survived by her husband Tom of Belle Plaine, Daughters, Mary (Dave) Unmacht of Eagan, MN Ann (Tom) Strey of Apple Valley, MN Grandchildren, Sarah, Matt & John Unmacht; Patrick & Paul Strey; Sisters; Elizabeth (Richard) Hiniker of White Bear Lake, MN Jean Marie (Gerald) Martinson of Golden Valley, MN Many nieces and nephews.
