Pursuing her dreams, she completed cosmetology school in St. Paul and opened her own salon in her hometown. It was around that time that a fine Irish man swept her off her feet. She married Carl Patrick Monahan on April 19, 1941. The couple moved to Le Sueur in 1948 where they would raise their four children. Staying true to her faith, Mary was a long-time member of St. Anne's Catholic Church. Throughout her life, family was her priority. She was involved in her children's lives by being engaged in their school-work and activities. She was a Cub Scout leader for her sons, and later became an honorary member of Alpha Chi Omega, her daughters' sorority. Mary was Le Sueur's Avon representative for many years. This job enabled her to connect with even more of the community, as one of Mary's many gifts was her ability to instantly be-friend everyone she met. Mary loved music and her life was filled with it from the time she was a young girl. She shared her passion for music with her family, and that passion is now shared by four generations of Monahan family members. Mary was proud of her Irish heritage. She loved wearing green and looked forward to St. Patrick's Day celebrations every year. Her ever-ready Irish humor and joke collection would be in full gear on those days. Quoted as saying, "I love my people" Mary was known for her quick wit, loving disposition, and family-first outlook on life. She will be greatly missed by the many people who loved her and were blessed with her positive presence and influence. She is survived by her children, Margaret (Larry) Hable of Richmond, VA, Jane (Al) Underhill of Phoenix, AZ, Gary (Shirley) Monahan of Le Sueur, MN and Robert (Michele) Monahan of Madison, WI; Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren, Jennifer (David) Nedeff & children (Sara & Sam), Molly (Brad) Dey and their daughter (Elizabeth), Holly Johnson, Matthew (Valerie) Monahan & children (Miles & Layla), Kelly (Gerald) Poole, Grant and Meghan Monahan, Mary and Riley Monahan; Sister, Rita Tracy of Red Wing, MN She is preceded in death by her husband Pat, brother, William Lambert; sister, Margaret Wick and infant daughter, Mary Kathleen.
