Mary Lynn Sasse, age 57, died on Monday, Dec. 28, 2015 at her home surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with ALS. She was born on April 6, 1958 in Mankato to Gerald and Ann Louise (Schwartz) Distel. Mary attended LeSueur High School and South Central College in Mankato. She married Bradley Sasse, her high school sweetheart, on May 18, 1979 at St. Anne's Catholic Church in LeSueur. They farmed for a short time north of LeSueur, then lived their farming dream in a beautiful old farmhouse in Sharon Township for 33 years. Mary was a very gifted designer, painter, creator and re-creator of anything she could find more beauty and purpose in. In high school, she opened a clothing store called The Cellar, and in 2012 fulfilled a life-long dream of opening a gift boutique in LeSueur called Dandelion Rose. She enjoyed remodeling and redecorating homes, businesses and gardens. She worked at Emma Krumbees in Belle Plaine as a creative designer. She was formerly a board member of St. Anne's School and was instrumental in starting Applefest, a fundraiser for the school. She enjoyed league bowling with her friends, was a dependable combine driver for her husband and especially enjoyed times with her children and grandchildren. Mary was a pioneer in a Stem Cell research project to find a cure for ALS at Mayo Clinic in Rochester. She is survived by her husband, Brad; children, Kathryn Sasse, Elizabeth (Jay) Boesl, Joseph (Amanda) Sasse and Mitchell (Molly) Sasse, all of LeSueur; 7 grandchildren, Etta, James, Lily, Olivia, Daniel, Frank and Lola and her mother, Ann Louise Distel of LeSueur; brothers, Dan (Jan) Distel of Chaska and Robert (Julie) Distel of Maple Grove and a sister, Lani (Dan) Driscoll of LeSueur. She was preceded in death by her father. Visitation will be on Sunday, Jan. 3 from 3 to 7 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in LeSueur with a funeral service on Monday, Jan. 4, 2016 at 11 at the Church. Memorials are preferred to the donor's choice or to ALS Research at the Mayo Clinic. Kolden Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
