Mary Kathleen Toma, age 82 of Carver, MN and formerly of Louisville, KY, passed away on November 24, 2015 at Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia, MN. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, November 30, 2015, 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Prairie Catholic Church in Belle Plaine, MN. Fr. Brian Lynch will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the Mass at church on Monday morning. Interment will be at a later date in Evergreen Cemetery in Bloomingdale Township, MI. Mary was born in Gobles, MI on December 13, 1932 to George and Roseanne (Murphy) Sage. Mary attended Kalamazoo area schools and received a Masters Degree in education and counseling from the University of Michigan and a reading endorsement from the University of Louisville. On August 16, 1958 she married Daniel Toma in Paw Paw, MI. They moved to Louisville, KY in 1960 where Mary taught in the Jefferson County School District. She was a high school counselor at Fern Creek High School, a middle school core instructor at Carrithers Middle School, and a reading specialist at Rice Audubon. She retired from teaching in 1995. In the summer of 2015, Mary and Dan moved to Minnesota to be closer to family. She enjoyed furniture refinishing, needlepoint, quilting, listening to music, reading, and watching University of Louisville sports. Mary is preceded in death by her parents, George and Roseanne Sage. Mary is survived by her husband, Dan of Carver, MN, Children, Dan (Margaret) Toma of Carver, MN, Kathleen (James) Mackie of Fairfax Virginia, Grandchildren, Anastasia, Paul and Jack Toma, Siblings, George Sage, and many nieces and nephews.
