Maureen Busse

September 6, 1955 — January 3, 2022

Maureen Ann Busse, age 66 of Belle Plaine, passed away in her home on January 3, 2022 with her husband and children by her side.

Maureen was born in New Prague on September 6, 1955 to Richard and Gertrude (Neisen) Meger. She grew up on the Meger farm near Union Hill with a full house of 10 kids, 1 bathroom, and countless memories. She graduated from New Prague High School. On June 17, 1978 she married John Busse at St Joseph Catholic Church in Lexington. They made their home in Belle Plaine where they raised two children.

Maureen had many, varied interests including playing cards, motorcycling, tending to her flowers, camping, and traveling. She and her husband, John, went on many extended trips all over Arizona, Texas, Utah, and other southern states. She traveled around the world with her daughter. While she had an adventurous spirit, she most appreciated the simplest things in life. She was blessed with a large family and even more friends, and enjoyed visiting, dance recitals and sporting events (especially with her special niece, Maddie), family gatherings, and holidays. Christmas was her favorite time of year. She never missed a birthday or milestone and always sent loved ones cards or crafted homemade gifts. Maureen cherished her family and was especially excited for the upcoming arrival of her first grandchild. She was the only person to learn the sex of the baby, and carried this secret to the end!

Maureen lived a deep spiritual life, guided by her parents, and was a devout Catholic. She is preceded in death by her parents Richard and Gertrude Meger, parents-in-law Willard and Rose Marie Busse, and sister-in-law, Diane Busse.
