Melford D. Horneman, age 80 of Le Sueur, died Tuesday morning March 8, 2011 at the Minnesota Valley Memorial Nursing Home in Le Sueur. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 11 at Zion United Church of Christ in Le Sueur. Rev. Beth Benson will officiate. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Thursday at the Kolden Funeral Home in Le Sueur, and also one hour prior to service time at the church. Interment will be in Mound Cemetery in Le Sueur. Melford was born on February 11, 1931 to Albert and Irene (Pagel) Horneman in Groton, South Dakota. He was in the Navy for four years. He married Shirley Dahn on November 20, 1954 at Zion U.C.C. in Le Sueur. He worked in Agricultural Research at Green Giant Canning Company in Le Sueur for 42 years. He enjoyed doing yard work and grooming his lawn to perfection. He also enjoyed gardening, especially vegetable gardening. He is survived by his wife, Shirley; children, Melford Jr. (Linda) Horneman of Mesa, AZ and Vicki (Douglas) Warzala of Rochester, MN; 5 grandchildren, Amanda, Sarah and Elizabeth Horneman, Danielle (Kevin) Truckenmiller and Michael Warzala; sister-in-law, Audrey Horneman; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Alvin and Albert Horneman; 3 sisters, Lorene Yaeger, Evelyn Hahn and Delores Brenke; and sister-in-law, Eunice Horneman; 3 brothers-in-law, Bill Yaeger, Gordon Hahn and Arnold Brenke.
