Melvin H. Nagel, age 82 of Arlington, died at his home on Thursday, Feb. 23, 2012. Melvin was born on August 2, 1929 to Henry and Elsie (Bethke) Nagel in Arlington, MN. He grew up in the Arlington Area and graduated from Arlington High School. He served in the United States Army and after returning home in 1949 he attended the Minnesota School of Business and became an Auditor. With the "Great Flood of 1951" in K.C. Mo. as his inspiration, he left his career in accounting to start his own business, Nagel Packing Co. He operated this business for 60 years, growing, packing and distributing fresh produce throughout the United States. Indeed he left his mark on that trade and gathered a large group of associates throughout the US, Mexico and Central America. Mel was a Pioneer and Maverick in his industry and when offered a shot at retired many years ago he simply stated "Sounds interesting but what would become of all My Opportunities"? He was definitely and inspiration to many..... Melvin will be remembered and missed by his children; Charles Nagel of Lafayette, Mn., Dan Nagel of Mission Viejo, Ca. and Lou Ann Nagel of Coeur d'Alene, Id. He is also survived by his wife Marion Nagel of Mankato, Mn. and his grandchildren Colton Nagel, Jacob Nagel and Natalie Nagel all of Mission Viejo, Ca. Also his brother Henry C. Nagel of Palm Desert, Ca. and sisters Robena Eckes of Whittier. Ca. and Marion Wilson of New Brighton,Mn. Services will be held in Arlington sometime this summer. Notification of time and place is pending.
