Michael John Koenig

Michael John Koenig, passed away on January 6, 2026, in Tagbilaran City, Philippines, after bravely battling cancer. A Mass of Christian burial will take place Thursday, March 5, 2026 at 10:30 AM, Our Lady of the Prairie Catholic Church in Belle Plaine, Minnesota. Visitation will be one hour prior to the Mass at church. Interment will be in Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery in Belle Plaine.

He was born on September 10, 1966 to Robert and Carol (Dekart) Koenig. He attended Belle Plaine Schools but graduated from Browerville High School in 1985. Throughout his life, Michael exemplified a passion for learning and a sharp eye for detail. A self-taught and expert auto body repair man, he showcased his talent and dedication to his craft while working as a fabricator for Elite in White Bear Lake. His skills extended beyond the shop; Michael was also a talented artist and painter. Whether he was riding, repairing, or restoring cars and motorcycles, his mechanical expertise was undeniable. In quieter moments, he enjoyed reading, particularly the novels of Stephen King.

Michael's life was marked by the bond he shared with his special companion, Patty Schultz, who he cared for lovingly until her passing in December 2020. Through Patty, he formed a special bond and relationship with her granddaughter, Jordyn, whom he embraced as his own granddaughter. Michael’s affection for Jordyn was unmistakable; she held a special place in his heart.

Michael is survived by his stepmother, Theresa; his siblings: Cynthia Koenig, MaryCarol (Mark) Wolf, AnnMarie (Danny) Otto, Mark (Sara) Koenig, Debra Koenig, Emily (Andrew) Koenig Hapka, and Julie Koenig. He leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews: Nicole, David, Melissa, Josh, Jed, Katie, Kelly, Betsy, Yogi, and Sampson and “adopted granddaughter” Jordyn.

Michael was preceded in death by his mother, Carol Koenig, his father, Robert Koenig, and his dear friend, Patty. While he will be missed by all who knew him, his spirit will endure in the hearts of his family and friends.
