Mildred “Millie” Overaas, age 68 of Le Sueur, MN passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Sunday, October 23, 2022 at Oak Terrace in Le Sueur following a courageous battle with cancer. She valued and appreciated the medical professionals at Mayo Clinic and Mayo Hospice who provided care and compassion through her treatment.
Memorial service will be at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 28, 2022 at the United Methodist Church in Le Sueur. Visitations will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Thursday, October 27 at the United Methodist Church in Le Sueur, as well as one hour prior to Friday’s 11:00 AM service. Interment will be at a later date in Iowa.
Millie was born on November 19, 1953 in Onawa, IA to George and Ellen (Hale) MacClure. She grew up on a farm in rural Sloan, IA, and graduated from Whiting High School in 1972 in Whiting, IA, where she was active in sports and music. Millie graduated from Morningside College in Sioux City, IA with a degree in Accounting and minor in Music. She married Russell Overaas on March 25, 1977 in Onawa. The couple lived in Dodge Center, MN and Independence, IA before moving to Le Sueur in 1994. Millie worked in the accounting field her entire career, working at Scholarship America in St. Peter, MN while living in Le Sueur.
Millie loved music of all kinds. She enjoyed singing in church choirs in Independence and Le Sueur, and also sang in a church band in Independence and The Notables in Le Sueur. Millie was active in church groups, PEO, and the PTA while her children were in school. She also enjoyed watching her children’s and grandchildren’s activities, loved time spent with friends, and was always up for a trip.
Millie and Russ enjoyed time at their lake home on Lake Ethel in Battle Lake, MN. She and her sister organized a family event at the lake for their mother and four aunts, which became an annual family tradition. After retirement, Millie and Russ made winter trips to Florida with close friends, always treasuring these relationships and fun times.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Russell; son, Kirk Overaas of Sioux Falls, SD; daughter, Jennifer (Shawn) Burtis of Minneapolis, MN; grandchildren, Kate Overaas and Keane & Finn Burtis; sister, Anne (Don) Hansich of Sloan; brother, Bob MacClure of Whiting; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Millie was greeted in heaven by her parents, George and Ellen.
