Monroe C. Tiegs

Monroe Tiegs, age 85 of Henderson, died at Mayo Health Systems in New Prague on Friday, August 21, 2015. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Centennial Lutheran Church in Henderson, MN. Visitation will be on Tuesday, August 25, from 4:00 p.m. ~ 8:00 p.m. at the Kolden Funeral Home in Henderson, MN. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the services on Wednesday morning at the church. Internment, Brown Cemetery, Henderson, MN with Military honors will be by the Henderson American Legion. Rev. Robert Hines will officiate the services. Monroe was born on September 21, 1929 to Herman and Hilda (Oldenburg) Tiegs in Henderson, MN. He grew up in Henderson and graduated from Henderson High School in 1948. He entered the United States Army in 1951 and served during the Korean War until 1953. He married Evelyn Buck on July 17, 1954 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Green Isle, MN. Monroe worked with the Sibley County Highway Dept. for 30 years and retired when he was 55. Following retirement, he focused most of his free time on M&E Parade Float Rentals, a business he and his wife started in 1965 and is still operating today. He also enjoyed working part time for Rainbow Woodworks of Henderson for 10 years. Monroe served on the Henderson School Board, Henderson City Council, Henderson American Legion, Henderson Fire Dept, Henderson Booster & Henderson Sportsman's Club. Monroe enjoyed fishing, hunting and playing amateur baseball for Henderson when he was younger. He is survived by his wife Evelyn; Children; Diane Tiegs of Maple Grove, MN; Duane (Mary) Tiegs of Henderson, MN; Donna (Dave) Ricks of Northfield, MN and David (Kristin) Tiegs of Le Center, MN. Grandchildren; Adam (Jeet) Poole, Sarah (Jason) Thompson, Andrew (Jane) Poole, Lisa Tiegs &fiancé, Curt Peterson, Michael Tiegs and Karissa Ricks. Great-Grandkids; Caleb, Kaitlyn & Gabriel Thompson and Nora Poole. He is preceded in death by his parents; infant brother Harry Ellsworth Tiegs & brothers; Harris and Roger Tiegs.
