Nellie Bertina Youngren

Nellie B. Youngren passed away on Sunday, November 4, 2012, at the age of 101. She was born on October 12, 1911 in Marietta, MN to Lars and Elise Maland, who emigrated from Norway. Nellie was one of nine children. She attended Moorhead State Teachers College and taught elementary school for several years before marrying Earl Youngren on June 26, 1938. Nellie and Earl had two children, Steven (Jandeen) Youngren of Onalaska, Wisconsin, and Ann (Gary) Larson of Louisville, Colorado. There are five grandchildren: Brianna (Chad) Keller, Amy (Aaron) Brouker, Kristin Youngren, Erik Larson, and Noelle Youngren; and two great-grandchildren: Brooke Keller and Dylan Keller. Nellie was a well-known local watercolor artist. She loved children, books, birds and flowers. She was known for her sweet disposition and her ability to hold a roomful of children in thrall with her story telling. A service will be held on Saturday, November 17, 2012 at 2 PM at Kolden Funeral Home, 529 Turril Street, Le Sueur, MN, with visitation from 1 to 2. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
