Nona Strandjord

Nona Strandjord, 79, our beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully at her Belle Plaine residence on December 27th in the presence of her family. Nona is survived by her husband Verne Strandjord, sons Cary (Pat), Mark (Kathy), Lee (Renee) and brother Jerry Meyer. She has 7 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren which she adored. Nona was born May 8th, 1936 to Ruth and Earle Meyer on a farm located in Sotus township near Marshall Minnesota. She attended Sacred Heart High School where she met the love of her life Verne. At 17 they married, then the young couple moved to Clarkston Washington, where they started their family. A few years later Nona and Verne returned to Minnesota to farm then eventually off to college. Nona chose to make a career of raising her sons providing Verne the opportunity to pursue his career with Green Giant and Pillsbury. After Verne's retirement, he and Nona traveled, visiting many cultures and people around the world. Nona loved shopping for bargains, gardening, browsing through antique stores, watching "Dancing with the Stars", Sunday morning fellowship with friends and long walks with her husband, but what she prized most was spending time with her growing family. Even as she grew fragile with illness, she would not deny herself of attending family celebrations. She was love and loved. Funeral services celebrating Nona's life will be held Saturday Jan 2nd, 11:AM at the First Lutheran Church in Le Sueur Mn. Visitation will be at 10:AM. A fellowship luncheon at noon. A grave site burial ceremony will be held Monday Jan 4th at 11:AM in Sacred Heart Minnesota at the Our Saviors Lutheran Cemetery located next to the old high school. A noon luncheon will follow at the church. Nona, you will be missed but remembered with smiles in our hearts. We love you.
