Norma Ione Eikenberry

Former Worthington resident Norma Ione Eikenberry, 104, of Le Sueur died December 7, 2017 at Ridgeview Healthcare Center. Mrs. Eikenberry was born September 4, 1913 in Worthington, MN to James Arthur and Edna Mae (Mackey) Hansberger. She graduated from Worthington High School and attended Normal (teachers) Training. She taught country school near Worthington. She married Russell R. Eikenberry on Aug. 6, 1933, in Worthington. They lived in Worthington until 1940 when they moved to Le Sueur, MN where they raised a family of four.. Norma was a home-maker and also did some daycare in the 1950's. She spent her summers in the family kitchen canning all the goodies grown in the large family garden. In 1962 they moved to Mankato and then in 1967 returned to Worthington. In 1970 Norma joined Russell when they became co-managers of Star Student Village at Worthington Community College. She was a life-long member of the United Methodist Church, currently a member of the First United Methodist Church in Worthington. She was an officer in the Eastern Star, an active member to the UM Women and the UM Wesley Club, the Friendship Club and the Golden Eagles. Norma enjoyed writing poetry and wrote poems for many occasions for family and friends. She also enjoyed playing games, doing crossword puzzles and watching the Minnesota Twins. Norma returned to Le Sueur in 2003 as a resident of Leisure Cottage. She is survived by three daughters, Cynthia (Kenneth) Braun of Le Sueur, Sheryl Hayford of Montgomery and Nancy (Gerald) Blomberg of Poway CA.; One son, David (Sarah) Eikenberry of Rotonda West, FL; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; five step great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; two sisters, Doris and Carol, two brothers, Dwayne and an infant one at birth, and a son-in-law. Burial will be in the Worthington Garden of Memories Cemetery followed by a private Memorial Service at The United Methodist Church in Le Sueur.
