Raymond Edward Heimkes

Raymond Edward Heimkes, age 84 of Arlington, died on Friday, October 4, 2024 at the Glencoe Regional Medical Center. Services will be the morning of Thursday, Oct. 10, 2024 at the Kolden Funeral Home in Arlington, MN, with visitation from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., and a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, Green Isle, MN, followed by a lunch and celebration of life at the Grey Fox Tavern in Green Isle, MN.

Raymond was born on April 5, 1940 to William and Emily (Herd) Heimkes in Green Isle Township, MN. He was baptized March 4, 1945 and confirmed April 11, 1954 by Pastor Friesen at St. Paul’s Evangelical Reformed Church in Hamburg, MN. He attended Green Isle and Arlington Schools. He married Mavis Oelke Herrmann on July 8, 1961 and, together, they raised their children Doug, Scott, Dan, Jill and Bill. Mavis passed away on March 1, 1993.

He married Doris Zeiher on June 25, 1994 at St. Brendan's Catholic Church, Green Isle, MN. Doris passed away on April 22, 2018.

Raymond worked for 23 years at Farmhand in Green Isle, also doing construction work on the side. He then worked at Nilfisk-Advance for 20 years until his retirement. He was a 20 year member of the Green Isle Fire Dept. Raymond enjoyed working in the garden and his flower beds, deer hunting and fishing up north, traveling, attending baseball games and his grandchildren's sports events.

Raymond will be remembered for his strong work ethic and his kind heart.

Survived by: sons Dan (Jane) Herrmann and Bill Heimkes; son-in-law Doug Ernst; daughter-in-law Kathy Herrmann; grandchildren Melanie Cargill, Mark (Heather) Herrmann, Joshua (Krista) Wurzberger, Luke (Kelsey) Meier, Jared Christensen, Logan (Ashley) Christensen, Emily (Mason) Goettl and Abby Heimkes; great-grandchildren Austin, Dakota, Trenton, Trevor, Brianna, Wyatt, Blakely, Archer, Ashlynn, Kailynn, Jordyn, Carter, Cashten and Theodore; sister LauraAnn VanEyll; sister-in-law JoAnn Heimkes. Also survived by extended family Ann Zieher, Scott (Colleen) Zeiher and Corey (Jana) Zeiher and their families.

Raymond is preceded in death by his parents; wives Mavis and Doris; daughter Jill Ernst; sons Doug and Scott Herrmann, Brian and Mark Zeiher; grandson Phillip Herrmann; brothers Earl, Russell and Virgil Heimkes; sister Rachel Fahey; sisters-in-law Rosemary and Lorraine Heimkes; brothers-in-law Les VanEyll and Tim Fahey.
