Richard I. Chapman

Richard "Dick" I. Chapman, age 71, of Eden Prairie, formerly of Le Sueur, died of a heart attack on Wednesday, November 25, 2015, at Fairview-Southdale Hospital in Edina, MN. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 30, at 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Le Sueur, MN. Visitation will be on Sunday, November 29, at the Kolden Funeral Home in Le Sueur from 3:00 ~ 7:00 p.m. and will resume one hour prior to the services at the church on Monday. Interment will be on Tuesday morning, December 1, at 11:00 a.m. at the Oakland Cemetery in Sac City, Iowa. Rev. Dan Schneider-Bryan and Rev. Terri Horn will assist with the services in Le Sueur; Rev. Missy Brown will assist with graveside services in Sac City, IA. Dick was born on December 18, 1943, to Kermit H. and Lois (Irwin) Chapman in Shreveport, LA. At a young age he moved to Sac City, IA, where he was active in high school sports and music, graduating from Sac Community High School in 1962. He then attended Iowa State University, graduating in 1966 with a degree in Statistics. He married JoAnn Winkler on September 4, 1965, in Sac City, and the couple moved to Le Sueur, MN, in the summer of 1966, where they raised their three sons. Dick had a long career with Green Giant/Pillsbury as the Director of International Distribution. He left Pillsbury in 1989, and formed a consulting business, retiring in 1992. During his retirement years, Dick was the primary caregiver for his wife, JoAnn, and his father during their final years. Working in his church was always very important to Dick, as was spending time with family, especially his grandchildren. Following his retirement, he spent considerable time enjoying his hobbies, including playing golf, collecting antique jigsaw puzzles, traveling, following Minnesota sports, gardening, and doing projects in his workshop. On October 15, 2011, he married Barbara Lindgren, and shortly afterward they moved from Le Sueur to Eden Prairie. There, he enjoyed spending time with their blended family, traveling, doing projects in their house and yard, and volunteering in their church. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Lindgren; sons, Jeff (Sally) Chapman of Sioux Falls, SD, Brad (Talonna) Chapman of Savage, MN, and Matt (Amy) Chapman of Milwaukee, WI; step-daughters, Carla (Mark) Heckathorne of Maple Grove, MN, and Sarah (Matt) Zamastil of Bloomington, MN; grandchildren, Jayson, Eden, Noelle, Brandon, Ryan, Kaitlyn, Daniel, Nicholas, Natalie, Brandon, Isaac, Jonah and Daniel; sister, Jan (Jim) Sweeney of Raleigh, NC, and nephew, Mike Flohr of Maple Grove, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, JoAnn in 2007.
