Richard J. Sullivan, age 81 of St. Thomas died on July 23, 2012 at his home. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of The Prairie Catholic Church on Friday, July 27, 2012. Fr. Roger Hessian will officiate. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Kolden Funeral Home in Belle Plaine and continue one hour prior at the church on Friday. 8PM ROSARY ON THURSDAY NIGHT WILL CLOSE VISITATION. Private interment will take place at Fort Snelling National Cemetery on Monday. Dick was born on July 24, 1930 in New Prague to James and Agnes (Retka) Sullivan. He graduated from New Prague High School in 1948. He spent 2 years in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Korea. He married Joanne O'Brien on October 1, 1955 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Belle Plaine. Dick lived on the family farm and was a farmer all of his life. Dick was one of the founders of the St. Thomas Sportmans Club. He was an active member of the St. Thomas parish, serving as an usher and singing in the choir. He is preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Ruth (Fred) McGuire, Audree (Jake) Maxa, George Sullivan and brother-in-law, Dr. James Hessian. He is survived by his wife Joanne of St. Thomas, Children, Brian (Margie) Sullivan of Eden Prairie, Colleen (Keith) Dillaway of Bloomington, Ann (Takashi) Tanaka of Nagano, Japan, Teresa Sullivan of Cholula, Mexico, MaryJo Bunton of Grant, Owen Sullivan of St. Thomas. Grandchildren, Megan, Nolan (Alisa), Ian and Dylan Sullivan, Graham and Bennett Dillaway, Joe Tanaka, Adam Walz, Roberto and Mae Murphy, Anthony and Irene Bunton. Great Grandchildren, Mackenzie, Liliana, Alice, Taku. Sister, Rita Hessian of Jordan, and Sister-in-law, Maxine Sullivan of Le Sueur and many nieces and nephews.
