Robert "Bob" Gatz

Robert “Bob” Gatz, age 94 of Belle Plaine, MN peacefully passed away on April 10, 2021 at Kingsway Retirement Living in Belle Plaine.  Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 16th at Our Lady of the Prairie Catholic Church in Belle Plaine.  Fr. Michael Kaluza and Fr. John Bauer will officiate.  Interment with Military Honors will be in Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Cemetery in Belle Plaine.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Belle Plaine Food Shelf.

Robert W. Gatz was born on March 22, 1927 in Minneapolis to Walter and Mary “Theresa” (Schmidt) Gatz.  Bob graduated from Belle Plaine High School in 1944 and then served in the US Navy during WWII where he attained the rank of 2nd Lieutenant.  He graduated from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering in June of 1950 and worked for Motorola Inc. for 39 years.  Bob married Geraldine Hix in 1951 and they were blessed with four children; Jim, Bill, Paul and Mary.  Bob was very active in the Boy Scouts of America for several years, mentoring many scouts in the joys of hiking, camping, fishing and canoeing.  He served on the board of directors for the State Bank of Belle Plaine since 1962.  Subsequent to death of Geraldine in 1998, he married Marguerite Hessian in 2001.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents, wife Geraldine, wife Marguerite in 2019 and son Bill in 2020.

He is survived by his children, Mary, Paul and Jim.

Grandchildren, Ashley, Brianna, Trevor, Emily, Jenna, Aspen, Amber, Nick and Jesse.

Great-grandchildren Ava and Alek.
