Roger Stenzel was born in Glencoe Township, McLeod County MN in 1941. The family moved to Arlington and in 1959 he graduated from the Arlington Green Isle High School. Roger attended the University of Minnesota and in 1963 received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business. After college Roger entered Officer's Training School. On November 22, 1963 he was commissioned into the US Navy. He completed training as a Navigator in 1965 and served with the AEWRON FOUR, also known as Hurricane Hunters. He was in active duty until 1968, during this time he was stationed in RI, FL, VA, TX, and England, he traveled to many countries. Roger continued in the Navy Reserve and was honorably discharged in 1979 reaching the rank of Lieutenant Commander. After active duty he returned to MN. In 1969 he began his career at Apache Corporation where he worked for 33 years. While working at Apache as Assistant Controller he lived in Minnesota, Colorado and Texas. He enjoyed his work and Apache family. He retired in 2002 and returned to MN in 2010. Roger was an avid reader, enjoyed golf, sports, yoga, traveling, family reunions, and horses. He passed away at his home in Rogers MN on November 12, 2017 of natural causes. Roger will be missed by his siblings, Jeanette/Jan Stenzel of Maple Grove, Jerry Stenzel and sister in law Judy of Clear Lake, Larry Stenzel of Sacramento CA, Pam Stenzel of Maple Grove, his beloved nieces, nephews and their families, Jessica (Ryan), Jennifer (Kevin), Ben (Gwen), Jena, Jon (Desiree), Joshua, Joe (Stephanie), Jacob, aunts and uncles Marvin and Pat Bartels, Ed Scheele, Audrey Stenzel and Orvilla Gebhardt, his personal assistant Shannon Simon, and his dog Felix. Roger is preceded in death by his parents, Albin and Mildred (Bartels) Stenzel. A memorial service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 28, 2018 at Creekside Community Church in Arlington followed by a committal service with military rites at the Arlington Public Cemetery. Following the committal service a luncheon reception will be provided at the church and will include a time for sharing and visiting with the family.
