Ruth Ethel Scheer

August 1, 1924 — April 18, 2018

Ruth Ethel Scheer, age 93, passed away at Arlington Good Samaritan Nursing Home on April 18, 2018. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church in Arlington. Interment will be in the St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday. Ruth was born at home in Arlington Township on August 1, 1924 to Albert and Emma (Nieland) Bade. She weighed only a little over 4 lbs. at birth and was kept in a shoebox by the stove to keep warm. She was baptized August 10, 1924 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Arlington. She grew up on the family farm and attended country school until the 8th grade. She was confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Arlington on April 2, 1939. She attended Arlington Public High School and graduated on May 29, 1942. On June 5, 1948, Ruth married Henry E. Scheer. They were blessed with two children, a daughter, Mary and a son, John. They lived in Arlington their entire life. Ruth worked a short time as a clerk in the local drugstore and then was a bookkeeper at the Arlington Creamery until it closed. For a short time she worked for Farm Bureau Insurance in Glencoe and then was a bookkeeper at the Arlington Hospital until she retired. Ruth had a great love of flowers and gardening. She was a member of 4-H when she was young and took flower and garden arrangements to the Sibley County Fair until she was in her late 80's. She also brought flowers for the church altar for more than 20 years. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Mission Club, Arlington Garden Club, and Arlington Legion Auxiliary. She loved family and family gatherings, always baked and brought favorite cookies for each holiday. Ruth is survived by her daughter and family, Mary and Allen Kistner, Lisa and Matt Otto, Hunter and Holly all of Arlington. Her son and family, John and JoLene Scheer of Arlington, Clint and Jeana Wibstad, Davis, Jacquelyn, Dawson, and Josilyn of Gaylord, MN. Also sister-in-law, Ramona Bade of Arlington, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Henry, sister, Martha Trocke, and brother, Robert Bade.
