Schelly Schmitz

Schelly Lynn (Voss) Schmitz, 56 of Belle Plaine, lost her battle with cancer on December 1, 2020.  A private memorial service will be held at noon on Saturday, March 13, 2021 at the Kolden Funeral Home in Belle Plaine.  A public visitation will be from 1-4p.m. following the private service.  Masks will be required, distancing and capacity limits will be followed at the funeral home.

Schelly was born on March 2, 1964 in New Prague to Marvin and Genevieve (Mendlik) Voss. She attended Belle Plaine Schools.  In 1980 she married Lee Barfknecht and had two children.  In 1987 she married Roman Schmitz and had three more children.  Schelly loved to help others, cook, crochet, do crafts, garden, and spend time with her family.

She is survived by her children, Jennifer (Garfield) Bowen, Laura Barfknecht (Cody Gay), Amelia Berry, Matthew Schmitz, and Stephanie Schmitz (Nathan Milbrath); grandchildren, Jerald (Whitney) Barfknecht, Caleb and Zachary Oestreich, and Claire Berry; sister and brother-in-law, Sandy and Mark Rassmussen; sister-in-law, Kathy Voss; and aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.  She is preceded in death by her husband, Roman; parents, Marvin and Janet; and siblings Lori and Joe.
