Sharon Kay Pinney, 83, of Le Sueur died Sunday May 4 peacefully at her home surrounded by her children, following a battle with ovarian cancer. Funeral Service will be held Friday, May 9, 2025 at First Lutheran Church at 11:00 A.M. Visitation will be held Thursday, May 8, 2025 at First Lutheran Church from 4-7 P.M. and continued one hour prior the morning of the funeral. Interment will be in Mound Cemetery, Le Sueur, MN. Luncheon to follow in the church social hall.
Sharon was born on April 30, 1942 to Jasper and Mildred (Dunkelbeck) Shaver in Mankato MN. Early on she lived on farms in Kasota and Nicollet, MN, before they moved to a farm in the St. Thomas / Le Sueur area at age 4. Sharon was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mankato and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran in Le Center. She attended country school in District 35 through 5th grade, then attended and graduated from Le Sueur Public School in 1959. In 1963 she graduated from Gustavus Adophus College with degrees in Nursing and Religion. She married William Pinney on September 7, 1963 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Le Center. They moved to the farm Bill grew up on, then to the city of Le Sueur in 2000. Sharon worked at Minnesota Valley Memorial Hospital, Gardenview Nursing Home and Le Sueur County Public Health.
She was active in many church and civic organizations and was particularly passionate about volunteering with organizations that supported the feeding and providing of resources to hungry people of all ages in our communities. In her lifetime, she was active in Monday Club, Library Story Hour, Home Extension Club, card club, 4-H leader, Dollars for Scholars, Region 9 Area Agency on Aging, Le Sueur Food Shelf, Le Sueur Foundation, Mayo House Board, Le Sueur Rotary, Hunger Solutions Minnesota, Presbyterian Church Elder, Sunday School and Bible School teaching, and Queen Mother of her Red Hat Society club.
Sharon enjoyed gardening, reading, sewing, crafts, collecting antique glassware, and making Ukrainian Easter eggs. She also greatly enjoyed spending time with her family, going to her grandchildren’s activities, annual trips together at the cabin, and keeping in touch with her friends, cousins, workplace nurses and Gustavus classmates.
Sharon is survived by a son Richard of Le Sueur, daughters Belinda (Joe) Hollman of Maple Grove, Janice (Jeff) Johnston of St. Louis Park, Marsha (Jim) Sullivan of Le Sueur and 6 grandchildren; Ben, Elliot and Sam Hollman and Emily, Leo and Caleb Sullivan, brother-in-law Darvin Reddemann, sister-in-law Jane Offenhauser and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband William in 2006, children Kristine (1989), premature children, Brenda (1965) and Michael (1964), brother David, sister Marilyn (Reddemann), brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Gerald and Vivian Pinney, Paul and Mary Braun, Elden and Frances Schwarz, and Wayne Offenhauser, and nephew Alan Pinney.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society or Le Sueur Food Shelf.
