Steven “Herbie” James Broin, age 59, of Green Isle, passed away at his home on March 13, 2026, from pancreatic cancer. A Celebration of Life for Herbie will be held Sunday, March 29, 2026, at The Club New Yorker in Green Isle from 1-5 p.m. Burial at St. Brendan’s Catholic Church in Green Isle will be private.
Herbie was born on July 14, 1966, to Jerry and Dee (Uhlir) Broin in Minneapolis. He grew up in Green Isle and graduated from Arlington-Green Isle High School in 1985. After high school, he then attended Hennepin Technical College for Sales and Marketing. Herbie worked various jobs in shipping and receiving, delivering auto parts for Suburban Chevrolet, delivering boats, and lastly delivering cars for Mint Condition Detailing. His gift to gab served him well. Herbie married Kay Haggenmiller at St. Brendan’s Catholic Church in Green Isle in 1997. They later divorced. Together, they had one son, Jesse.
Herbie was a passionate Green Bay Packers fan, being not only a season ticketholder but a shareholder as well. He made many friends in Green Bay through the years that he would see year after year. He also liked to spend his free time hunting and fishing with friends. Perhaps most cherished of all were the times he spent attending Jesse’s sporting events and other activities. Herbie was always known for having some sort of candy in his pockets for handing out, not only for the kids but the parents as well.
Herbie was known for his mischievous smile, easy spirit, big hugs, and ability to make friends wherever he went.
Herbie is survived by his son, Jesse Broin; mother, Dee Broin; ex-wife, Kay Broin; sister, Sue Kreger; nephews Jeff Kreger and Matt Kreger; niece Lisa Zaudtke; his dog, Peanut - his Baby Girl; and many other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his father, Jerry Broin.
Thank you to St. Croix Hospice and everyone who was a caregiver during his journey.
