Steven Lee Nesgoda

Steven Lee Nesgoda Sr., age 71 of Le Sueur, MN , died shortly before dawn on November 16, 2025, after a 5-year battle with cancer, Steve quietly slipped away to heaven. Steve spent the previous day surrounded by loved ones and serenaded, by grandson Cecil, on the piano. A traditional Irish wake* will be held Thursday November 20th, from 4 p.m. to noon Friday November 21st, at Steve and Mary’s farm at 30627 Pumpkin Hill Rd, Le Sueur, MN. Burial will take place at St. Anne’s Cemetery in Le Sueur, MN on Friday at 12:30 p.m. Lunch to follow at the farm.

Steve was born October 17, 1954, to Bertine and Ginnoda Nesgoda. He was raised in rural Two Harbors, MN. Steve graduated from Clover Valley High School in 1973, then served honorably in the United States Army and was stationed in Korea and Fort Polk, LA. After completing his service, Steve moved to the Twin Cities. He worked various jobs before settling with Lyman Lumber and ABC Millwork. He was a member of the Teamsters local 221 and retired in 2008 after 30+ years. Steve was a cherished husband, son, brother, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He loved cutting firewood, starting fires, golfing, gardening, and collecting coins and Lake Superior agates. He had a green thumb and grew an enormous variety of vegetables every year, he was famous for his tomatoes and, more recently, medicinal herbs. He shared his harvest with family and friends, and anyone who asked. Steve was a long time “friend of Bill” having achieved 35 years of sobriety. He helped and sponsored many people over the years. He was loved by all and will be mourned by many.

Steve is survived by wife Mary, children Shanna (Bobby) Lancour, Miranda Nesgoda, Melissa Nesgoda, Steven Lee Nesgoda Jr., step children Liz (John) Preisen, Ellen (Neil) Smith, James (Ilja) Petermeier, grandchildren Westin Lancour, Cainen Lancour, Kaylee Nesgoda, Cecil Nesgoda, Jamarian Ausley and Naudia Lee Nesgoda, step grandchildren Nolan Fahey, Maddie Fahey, Matthew Smith, Evelyn Smith, Adalee Smith, brothers and sisters Gary Nesgoda, Larry Nesgoda, Michelle Ives, Tim Nesgoda, Tom (Monica) Nesgoda and Marcie (Larry) Sandretsky. He will be missed by many other family and friends, and his beloved dachshunds Cricket and Chickadee. Steve is preceded in death by his father Bert, brother Paul, and infant sister Lavonne.
