Sylvia A. Shafer

Sylvia A. Kronlokken-Wiersma-Shafer, age 93 of Le Sueur, died Thursday, August 26, 2010 at the Gardenview Nursing Home in Le Sueur. Funeral Service will be 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 30, 2010 at the First Lutheran Church in Le Sueur. Visitation will be one hour prior the service at the church. Interment will be in the Olivia Public Cemetery, in Olivia Sylvia was born on December 1, 1916 to Carl and Dagny (Anderson) Kronlokken in Renville, Minnesota. Sylvia was employed in Renville and Minneapolis prior to her marriage to Wilbur Wiersma in 1944. They lived in Olivia and had two daughters, Carol and Vicki. Bill died in 1952 and Sylvia assumed his position as town clerk. In 1955 Sylvia married Russell Shafer and they had twin daughters, Jean and Joan. While raising her daughters, Sylvia was employed as Deputy County Treasurer for Renville County. In the early ‘70's they moved to Bird Island where they enjoyed retirement. Russell died in 1984. Sylvia then moved to Le Sueur where she enjoyed becoming active in the community. She is survived by her daughters, Carol (Herdie Baisden) Wiersma of Stockholm, WI, Vicki (Tom Drummond) LaRue of Carmine, TX, Joan (Lee) Northouse of Prescott, WI and Jean (Dennis) Teschendorf of Le Sueur; grandchildren, Vanessa (Mike) Utell, Sarah (Joe) Palkowitsch and Russell Teschendorf.
