Veleida Anna Schmidt

Veleida Anna Schmidt, age 98 of Le Sueur, died on Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2012 at the Minnesota Valley Health Center in Le Sueur. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Zion United Church of Christ in Le Sueur. Visitation will be at the Kolden Funeral Home in Le Sueur on Tuesday, Oct. 2, from 4-8 p.m. and 1 hour prior to the services at the church on Wednesday morning. Following lunch, interment will be in the Oakwood Cemetery in Belle Plaine. Rev. Beth Benson will officiate the services. Veleida was born on May 31, 1914 to William and Anna (Kroells) Herrmann in a farm home in Sibley County, MN. She married Lloyd G. Schmidt on Nov. 24, 1937 in Jordan, MN. Veleida was a member of Zion United Church of Christ in Le Sueur and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years. Over the years she was employed at several cafes, grocery and bakery stores. She also worked at the Minnesota Valley Memorial Hospital Kitchen and The Clothes Closet. She was a great seamstress and excellent cook. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and doing word search puzzles. Her great love was old time dancing. Veleida is survived by her children,Sandy Busse of Le Sueur, MN, Corrine Valenzuela of Le Sueur, MN, Carole Anderson of Napa, CA, Donald (Sharon) Schmidt of Davenport, IA, Bill Schmidt of Le Sueur, MN and Judy (Nick) Marquith of Monument, CO; 16 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and sister-in-law, Lorraine Herrmann of Le Sueur. She is preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd in 1982; parents; four sisters; one brother and two sons-in-law.
