Velma A. Otto, age 87 of Belle Plaine, passed away on Thursday, September 23, 2010 at the Lutheran Home in Belle Plaine. Funeral service will be at 11a.m. on Tuesday, September 28, 2010 at St. John Lutheran Church in Belle Plaine, Rev. Mark Johnson will officiate. Visitation will be from 4-8p.m. on Monday at the Kolden Funeral Home in Belle Plaine and continue one hour prior to the service at church on Tuesday. A prayer service by the American Legion and VFW Auxiliaries will be held at 7:00 PM on Monday. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Belle Plaine. Velma was born on February 20, 1923 at home in Kelso Township, Sibley County, MN to Henry and Selma (Borgmann) Otting. She graduated from Gaylord High School in 1940. On June 2, 1942 she married Ervin Otto at Trinity Lutheran Church in Kelso Township. While Ervin was away serving the Army in WWII, Velma worked for Northwest Airlines. She later worked at the Belle Plaine Commission Company and with her husband at Erv Otto Auction Service in Belle Plaine. She and Ervin were past BBQ Days Grand Marshals, she was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the VFW Auxiliary in Belle Plaine. She loved playing cards, square dancing, travelling and entertaining family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents and husband Ervin in 2009; brothers, Edwin, Floyd and Ivan Otting; sisters, Ethel Spiering and Pearl Strand. Velma is survived by her 3 daughters, Jan (Jack) Tuttle of Los Altos, CA, Joyce (Gary) Olson of Citrus Heights, CA, Annette (Chris) Moylan of Belle Plaine, MN; Grandchildren, Sara (Michael) Leeder, Katie (Michael) Caponigro, John Tuttle, Whitney (Shawn) LaClair, Lindsay Olson, Brooke Moylan and Tyler Moylan; Great-Grandchildren, Dylan Jack Leeder and Kaylin LaClair; Sister, Florence (Bud) Seratzki of St. Louis Park and many nieces and nephews.
