Verna Nina Steffen

Verna N. Steffen, age 90, of LeSueur died on Thursday, June 21, 2012 at her home. She was born on March 16, 1922 in Henderson, Minnesota to August and Alma (Holtz) Oldenburg. She grew up in the LeSueur area and graduated from LeSueur High School. Verna attended Mankato Beauty School and operated her own beauty salon in LeSueur for many years. She married Wilfred Steffen on May 24, 1945 at Zion church in LeSueur. She loved to crochet, polka music, ceramics, cooking, baking and traveling. She is survived by her children, Lyle (Susan) Steffen of LeSueur, Jeanne Louise (Lynn) Johnson of St. Peter and Bob Steffen of Savage; brother, Lloyd Oldenburg of rural Belle Plaine; brother-in-law, Elmer "Smoky" Benson of Silver Bay, Minnesota and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilfred in 1992 and sister, Lenora Murphy. Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 25, 2012 at 2 p.m. at Zion United Church of Christ in LeSueur. Rev. Beth Benson will officiate. Interment, will be at a later date, and will be in the Ottawa Cemetery. There will be a time of visitation one hour prior to the services at the church on Monday.
