Lutheran Church in LeSueur. Visitation will be two hours prior to service time Tuesday at the church. Interment will be at 1:45 p.m. at St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Cemetery in Arlington. Kolden Funeral Home of Arlington is assisting with the arrangements. Vernon John Wietzke was born on November 26, 1929 in Kelso Township of Sibley County, Minnesota, the son of William John Wietzke and Anna Marie, nee Templin. He attended school at Rush River and at St. John's Lutheran of rural Arlington. On March 28, 1951 he was united in marriage to Arlene Marie Lueck at St. John Ev. Lutheran Church, rural Arlington. The Lord blessed them with two children and with more than 64 years together. He was an avid fisherman and hunter in his younger years and for a number of years also played slow-pitch softball. Vernon served as the Kelso Township Supervisor and Township Clerk for several years. Along with farming half of the farm on which he was born, he was employed at Shaw Tiling Company in the 1950's and the Green Giant Canning Company in LeSueur in the 1960's to 1990's. He and his family were always very active in worship and church life, most recently at Grace of LeSueur where he was a member. Very healthy for most of his life, in the past three years he had a nearly constant decline in health which led to his hospitalization in late July and the Oak Terrace nursing home as of August 6th. On Saturday, August 29, 2015 the Lord in his infinite wisdom took Mr. Wietzke to his eternal home, having allowed him to reach the age of 85 years old. Preceding him in death were his parents, three brothers; Leonard who died at age 6 in 1928, William, and Eldon. Also preceding him in death were a sister-in-law; Lila (Mrs. William) Wietzke, a brother-in-law; Richard Lueck, Jr., and sister-in-law; Geraldine (Mrs. Wesley) Bruss.
