Viola Ruschmeyer

Viola B. Ruschmeyer, age 93 of Winthrop passed away Easter Sunday at Harmony River Living Center in Hutchinson. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 31st at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in Winthrop. Visitation will be 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Wednesday and one hour prior to service time Thursday all at the church. Interment will be in the Winthrop Cemetery. Kolden Funeral Home of Arlington is assisting with arrangements. Viola was born on June 14, 1922 at Loretto Hospital in New Ulm to Paul and Hulda (Schroeder) Kern. She was baptized on July 2, 1922 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Moltke Township and confirmed on May 24, 1936 at Emanuel Lutheran Church, Wellington Township. On June 2, 1946 she married Milton C. Ruschmeyer at St. John's Lutheran Church in Fairfax. Viola was a homemaker and loved embroidery, crocheting and sewing. She enjoyed travel, fishing and taking pictures. She also liked her perennial garden. Viola was a long-time member of Zion Lutheran Church in Winthrop and through the years taught Sunday School and was a member of the Zion Lutheran Guild. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #314 in Winthrop. Viola is survived by her children, Sharon Traurig of Meza, Arizona, Larry (Rita) Ruschmeyer of Darwin and Susan (Victor) Chicas of Fremont, Iowa, nine grandchildren, Michael, Brian, Shannon & Jeremy, John & Peter, Marcos, Eric & Seth, nine great grandchildren, Brittney & Jennifer, Carter & Raeanna, Liam, Luke & Levi, Xander, and Athena, siblings, Evelyn (LeRoy "Butz") Grunke of Fairfax, Ordella Freyholtz of Tripoli, Iowa and Luella Kern of Richfield, siblings-in-law, Elvira Ernst of New Ulm, Melroy Ruschmeyer of Fairfax, Marion Buboltz of Hector and Marian Ruschmeyer of Mankato. She was preceded in death by her parents and parents-in-law, her husband Milton on November 26, 1994, son-in-law, Mike Traurig, seven siblings in infancy and siblings-in-law, Kenneth Freyholtz, Harvey, Harry, Herman, Willmer (Virgine) and Roland Ruschmeyer, Irene Ruschmeyer, Alice (Arthur) Freyholtz, Valeria (Earnest) Evenson, Marlene Ruschmeyer, Merrill Ernst and Orley Buboltz.
