Violet Minnie Augusta Gruetzmacher Krueger, lifelong resident of Belle Plaine, passed away Monday, April 2, 2018 at the Lutheran Home at the age of 92. She has resided there since 2010. Funeral Service will be at 11a.m. on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at St. John Lutheran Church in Belle Plaine. Rev. Mark Johnson & Rev. Sarah Timian will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday morning. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Belle Plaine. Violet was born February 14, 1926 in Belle Plaine Township, Scott County to William and Augusta (Mueller) Gruetzmacher the youngest of seven children. She was baptized March 15, 1926 and confirmed March 17, 1940, both by Pastor P.J. Haupt. She attended Belle Plaine Township Schools. Violet married Fred Krueger at St. John Lutheran by Pastor P.J. Haupt on April 12, 1944. They farmed in Belle Plaine Township until early 1950's and then moved into Belle Plaine. Fred passed away August of 1986. Violet worked at many cafes in the area and retired from the Lutheran Home in 1994 after working there for many years. She loved cooking and was well known for making potato salad for many special occasions. She enjoyed playing cards, playing darts on teams, bingo and doing crafts. Fred and Violet spent many summers at the lakes fishing and visiting with numerous friends. She loved celebrating her birthday each year, for at least a week or two. Violet is survived by many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Fred, brothers, Arthur, Erwin, Arnold & Wilmer Gruetzmacher and sisters, Alma Stier & Emma Stier. Memorials are preferred to the St. John Building Fund.
