Virginia H. Peka

Virginia H. (Sundstrom) Peka, age 97 of Le Sueur, died on Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at the MN Valley Health Center in Le Sueur. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 1 at United Methodist Church in Le Sueur. Rev. Luke Nelson will officiate the service. Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to service time. Interment will be in the Ft. Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN. Virginia was born on August 19, 1917 to Arthur and Mabel (Peterson) Sundstrom in Upsala, MN. She was baptized on April 4, 1926 at the Arlington Hills M.E. Church in St. Paul, MN. After high school, she moved to Minneapolis, MN where she married Clarence Peka on April 6, 1940 at Our Savior Lutheran Church. After working as a housewife and waitress at several restaurants, Virginia began working at the State Hospital in St. Peter, MN as a Psychiatric Technician. She later became a Licensed Practical Nurse, and retired in August 1982 after 25 years with the State Hospital. She is survived by her children, Dennis (Joanie) Peka of Montgomery, AL and Beverly (Joe) Gudmundsson of Los Angeles, CA; sister-in-law, Irene Peka of Richmond, IN; 8 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clarence; son, Lawrence, sisters, Irene and Bernice; brothers, Leonard, Lloyd and an infant brother; and sister-in-law, Shirley Peka. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the United Methodist Church of Le Sueur, where Virginia was a member for many years.
