Vivian M. Bender

Vivian M. Bender, age 84 of Henderson, died on Saturday, September 24, 2016 at Mayo Health Systems in Mankato. Funeral Services will be on Friday, September 30, 11:00 a.m. at CentennialLutheran Church in Henderson, MN. Visitation will be at the Kolden Funeral Home in Henderson on Thursday, from 3-8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service at church on Friday. Interment will be in Brown Cemetery, Henderson, MN. A luncheon will follow at the HendersonRoad Haus Event Center.Vivian was born on December 22, 1931 to C.A. Werner & Olufine (Smaaland) Carlson in Belview, MN. She grew up on a farm near Belview and graduated from Belview High School. She attended Mankato Teachers College and was a 1st grade teacher in Henderson. She married Donald Bender on June 5, 1953 in Belview, MN. The couple then purchased the Coast to Coast Hardware Store in Henderson in 1955 and owned and operated the store through 1980. Vivian continued to do some substitute teaching in Henderson over the years. Vivian was a member of the Friends of the Henderson Library, Centennial Lutheran Church, Sibley County American Cancer Society, and GFWC Ladies Tourist Club. Her passions were arts and crafts, painting, baking, jigsaw puzzles, family camping trips and traveling. She is preceded in death by her parents, 2brothers and 3 sisters.She is survived by her husband, Donald. Children; Deb (Ed) Miller of Le Sueur, Tom (LaDonna) Bender of Henderson, and Kent (Cathy) Bender of Bozeman, MT. Seven grandchildren; Alissa (Mark) Dahn, Marsha (Brian) Edel, Shayne (Allison) Bender, Lynnea (Cody) Wetzel, Taryn Bender (fiancé Erik Rice), Cal Bender & Cody Bender. Seven Great-Grandchildren and brother, Melvin Carlson of Kansas City, MO. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. The family would like to thank Oak Terrace Assisted Living in LeSueur for their wonderful care since Don and Vivian moved there in July.
