Wallace "Wally" Henry Otto, 85, of Belle Plaine passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family on Friday, March 23, 2018. Funeral service will be at 11a.m. on Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church in Belle Plaine. Rev. Tim Redfield will officiate. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4-8p.m. at the Kolden Funeral Home in Belle Plaine with a 7p.m. Veterans prayer service. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday morning. Interment with military honors will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Belle Plaine. Wallace was born on September 17, 1932, the oldest of five children, to Herbert and Marie (Bussmann) Otto in Blakeley Township, Scott County, Minnesota. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Belle Plaine. Wally attended six years of country school and seventh and eighth grade at Trinity Lutheran. Wally helped on the family farm and worked for Krueger Sawmill for four years. At the age of 18, he got his truck license and worked for Belle Plaine Livestock Company for two years. Wally enlisted in the Air Force in November of 1952 and proudly served his country until November of 1956. On November 5, 1954 he married Evonne Stier at St. John Lutheran Church in Belle Plaine. They were blessed with five children. In April of 1957, Wally bought a milk truck and hauled milk until September of 1969 when he went to work for the Belle Plaine Cooperative and retired in August 1997. Wally was an active member of the Sportsman's Club, 40/8 Club and Pioneer Power. He was most active in the American Legion Post #144 where he served as a commander and was the chaplain for 32 years. In his retirement years he enjoyed fishing, playing cards, camping, cooking and spending time with his family. He also enjoyed driving cars for the local dealership. Wally is survived by his wife, Evonne, of 63 years, Children, Dale (Lori) Otto of Jordan, Diane Otto of Belle Plaine, LaNae (Duane) Barta of Belle Plaine, Brian (Claudia) Otto of New Prague, Craig (Julie) Otto of Belle Plaine. Grandchildren, Amber (Mike) Anderson, Britani (Mike) Rodriguez, Eli Otto, Kaycee (Demian) Rebers, Chelsea Barta, Nicole Colton, Elizabeth Otto, Ashley Otto, Brant Otto, Luke (Kayla) Otto, Emily Otto, Alec Otto, Jack Otto and Patrick Otto. Four step grandchildren, Seleana, Chas, Pierce & Parris, Ten Great Grandchildren, Sisters, Gladys Mathwig of Green Isle, Marlys (Elroy) Koepp of Belle Plaine & Mary Ann (Roger) Sons of Norwood Young America, brother in law, Darrell (Barb Siemieniewski) Stier of Le Center. Many Nieces & Nephews. Wally was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert & Marie Otto, father in law and mother in law, John & Alma Stier, brother and sister in law, Lowell & Eileen Otto, brother in law and sister in law, Norman & Marilyn Koepp, sister in law, Marvella Stier, brother in law Gilbert Mathwig, nephews, Gary Stier & Kevin Stier, and niece Susan Koepp.
