Willard A. Braun

Willard A. Braun, age 93 of Winthrop passed away Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at the Good Samaritan Society in Winthrop. Memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 5th at Peace Lutheran Church in Winthrop. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time Sunday at the church. Interment will be in the Winthrop Cemetery. Willard August Braun was born on September 3, 1924 in Transit Township, Sibley County to William and Martha (Stuber) Braun. He was baptized on September 21, 1924 and confirmed on April 24, 1938 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Bismarck Township. Willard grew up in Transit Township and attended the District 44 school. He was united in marriage to Lucille Bergs on November 22, 1947. They operated the family farm in Transit Township, Sibley County. The marriage was blessed with six children. Willard served as a member of the board of Mid-America Dairymen and Tri-County Co-op Oil Association. He was a member of St. John's Bismarck and later Peace Lutheran Church. He was the secretary at St. John's for 25 years and served as a deacon at both churches. He volunteered to deliver Meals on Wheels for many years. He enjoyed bowling, fishing and watching sports. Willard loved farming, and continued to farm, helping succeeding owners and neighbors with farm work for many years after his "retirement". Willard passed away July 31, 2018, age 93, at the Good Samaritan Center in Winthrop. Willard is survived by children Mavis Zacrep, Lois Braun, Mary Braun, Lori (Ross) Braun-Ruschmeyer, and Rodney (Kristine) Braun. He was preceded in death by his wife Lucille, daughter Renee, parents William and Martha Braun, brother and sisters Lula Krueger, Lillian D'Andrea, Loren Braun and Marlene Stamatin. Donations preferred to the American Cancer Society.
