William Harold "Sonny" Marquardt

William Harold "Sonny" Marquardt, age 84 of rural Henderson passed away Saturday, February 1, 2014 peacefully surrounded by his family at his farm. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 6th at St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Henderson. Burial with military honors by the Arlington Honor Guard will be in Brown Cemetery, Henderson. Visitation will be Wednesday, February 5th from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Kolden Funeral Home in Arlington with visitation continuing one hour prior to service time Thursday at the church. Bill was born on February 4, 1929 in Kelso Township, Sibley County to Paul and Marie (Ehlers) Marquardt. He attended Rush River Country School through the eighth grade. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1952 until 1953. Sonny married Mary Ann Moeller on January 2, 1960 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Sibley Township. He farmed his whole life in Kelso Township. He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Henderson, LeSueur County Pioneer Power Assn., VFW Post #6031 of Arlington and the VFW Drill Team. He enjoyed auctions, gardening, tinkering with gas engines, spending time with family and as a true German, was fond of his beer and sausage. Sonny is survived by his wife, Mary Ann of Henderson; daughters: Lori (Brad) Butler of LeSueur and Kris (Rick) Bauer of Annandale; 2 granddaughters: Justine and Anna Bauer; sisters: Marion Woehler of Arlington and Edith (Robert) Schleeve of LeSueur; many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Joe (Elaine) Marquardt; brothers-in-law: Robert Woehler, William Moeller, and Hans Koellner.
