Obituary

Bernice M. (Marquardt) Buck Lieske, age 96 of Arlington passed away Tuesday, August 1, 2023 at Glenfields Senior Care in Glencoe. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 5th at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Arlington Township, Sibley County. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Saturday at the church. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Bernice Martha Minnie Marquardt was born on December 19, 1926 in Cottonwood County to Carl and Alvina (Hulke) Marquardt. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Bernice attended District #41 Country School in the early years and later attended St. John’s Lutheran School in Arlington Township. Bernice was a farmwife and also worked in housekeeping at the Arlington Good Samaritan Center. She married Willard Edward Buck on April 29, 1945 at St. John’s Lutheran Church and later married Wilfred Lieske also at St. John’s. Bernice was an avid gardener and had a love for Hosta’s. She quilted for World Relief and liked to can and eat pickles. Bernice had a wonderful sense of humor. She was a member of the St. John’s Lutheran Ladies Aid and believed faith and family to be very important.

Bernice is survived by her children; Wayne (Debbie) Buck, Laurie (Al) Rowland, Jacqueline (Doug) Anderson, Peggy Kreger and special friend Dennis Vinkemeier and Nancy Buck, seven grandchildren; Doreen (Bryan) Miller, Brenda (Pete) Laumann, Jessica (Todd) Vessey, Peter Rowland, Michael Rowland, Annie (Dustin) Meuleners and Will Buck, 10 great grandchildren; Emily, Claire, Olivia, Joshua, Anna, Drew, Elise, Blake, Quinn and Meggin, sisters-in-law and brother-in-law; Dolores Marquardt, Mary & Jack Smyly and many nieces and nephews.

Bernice is preceded in death by her parents and parents-in-law, husbands; Willard and Wilfred, siblings; Harold Marquardt, Gerhardt Marquardt, Oscar Marquardt, Bertina Schramm, sisters-in-law; Esther Marquardt and Bernice Marquardt, brothers-in-law; Barney Schramm and Franklin Buck, nieces and nephews; Rodney Marquardt, Bruce Schramm, Phyllis Schramm and Elaine Domeier.
