Bernice Schmidt

Bernice (Doyle) Schmidt, Age 90 of Belle Plaine, MN passed away peacefully at her home of natural causes and a broken heart. Private Family Mass of Christian Burial (due to Covid-19) will be held on Wednesday, November 18th at Our Lady of the Prairie Catholic Church with Burial at the Sacred Heart Cemetery. Bernice attended school in Henderson, MN until 8th Grade and transferred to the University of Minnesota - School of Agriculture from Freshman to Senior Year where she graduated in 1947.

She met Evan Schmidt at a wedding dance in Henderson, MN and they were married in November 1951 while Evan was at home on leave from training for the Korean War. While raising 6 daughters, she worked at Green Giant in LeSueur, MN, at Apco (small truck stop in Belle Plaine, MN) and house cleaned until she was 80!  She so enjoyed those she cleaned for and their families she just couldn’t say “Good Bye”.

Bernice enjoyed dancing so wherever they could find a polka fest they would hook up the camper and head out, knitting, cooking, baking, camping, belonged to Kato Wheels camping club and gardening…

Preceded in death by her loving husband of 68 years Evan Schmidt (Passed away June 21, 2020),

her parents Maurice and Rosa (Maus) Doyle, brothers Clarence and James. Survived by six daughters:  Vicky (Rick) Ginter of New Prague, Sandy (Ken) Stocker of LeSueur, Bonnie (Tony) Schneider of New Prague, Kathy (Bruce) Hartley of Shakopee, Nancy (Alan) Giles of Belle Plaine and Rocky (Steve) Ulferts/Velner of Shakopee;

20 grandchildren, 42 Great Grandchildren and 1 Great Great Grandchild.

In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to:  Our Lady of the Prairie Catholic Church (Cemetery or Maintenance Fund), 200 E. Church Street, Belle Plaine, MN  56011
