Carmen Mae Wigand, age 92 of Le Sueur, formerly of Henderson, MN, died on Wednesday, September 14, 2022 at Oak Terrace Senior Living Facility in Le Sueur, MN. Funeral service will be on Monday, September 19, 2022, 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Henderson. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church. Burial to follow at Brown Cemetery, Henderson, MN. Lunch and fellowship follow burial service.
Carmen was born on May 13, 1930 in Gibbon, MN to Elsie Sophia (nee Geib) Wigand and Allie John Henry Wigand. She and her family moved to Henderson when she was five years old.She attended Henderson Schools and graduated from Henderson High School in 1948. She was Henderson’s Miss Sauerkraut Queen in 1952. She graduated from Mankato Business School before embarking on a 35 year career as an administrator of Health Benefits with Green Giant in Le Sueur, MN. She traveled extensively, often visiting her cousin Lorraine Fischel in California.She was on the Henderson history book committee for 5 years working to produce the ‘Henderson Then and Now 1852-1994’ history book. She and her brother Stan did the original surveys for several local cemeteries including Brown Cemetery. Those records have since been computerized. She was also an avid bowler on Bender’s Drug bowling team in which she won many trophies.Carmen and her brother Stan were custodians for over 30 years at St Paul’s United Church of Christ in Henderson. Carmen was very active in St. Paul’s church, singing in the choir, teaching Sunday School, and serving as president of the Women’s Guild.
She is survived by many relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents Allie and Elsie Wigand; and her brother Stanley Wigand in 2019.
