Cheryl Mattson Obituary

Cheryl “Cherie” Kay Mattson, age 72 of Henderson, passed away suddenly at home on Monday, September 5, 2022. Memorial service will be on Saturday, September 10, 2022, at 11:00 at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Henderson. Visitation will be at the church from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Lunch will follow in the church social hall.

 

Cherie was born on September 9, 1949 in Dearborn, MI to Thomas “Dave” & Betty (Mattice) Kosier. She attended schools in the experiential learning Greenfield Village School system and graduated from Edsel Ford High School. She attended Henry Ford College and later went back to school to receive her Registered Nurse degree. She married Sven Mattson on September 22, 1983 in Manly, Iowa. The couple lived in Owatonna, MN for many years before building a house in Henderson. Cherie was passionate about serving her neighbors and did rewarding work as a hospice nurse, was very active in Sibley County FoodShare, St. Paul’s United Church of Christ Church serving as council President and staging children’s Christmas plays, Jaycees, scholarship pageants, and in her younger years she led Brownies and coached soccer for her kids.

 

She loved her family, time with friends, and varied creative hobbies including cooking, baking, beadwork, dog training, knitting, playing harp, miniatures, ceramics, finding the next hobby, and gardening.

 

Preceded in death by her parents, Cherie is survived by her husband of 38 years, Sven; Children: Derrick (Chelsi) Gaborski of Lakeville, MN and Nicole (Josh) Schultz of Superior, WI; Stepchildren: Jennifer (Al Jennings) Willoughby of Hermantown, MN, Sara (Dave) Golden of Lakeland, MN and Sven Matthew Mattson of Minneapolis, MN; 13 Grandchildren and 2 Great Grandchildren; Brothers: Thomas (Mary) Kosier of West Palm Beach, FL and Mark (Tracy) Kosier of Jacksonville, FL; and Sister: Peggy (John) Corcoran of Traverse City, MI; and many nieces, nephews, family and dear friends.

 

Memorials preferred to Sibley County FoodShare Inc. or St. Paul’s United Church of Christ Children’s Ministry.
