Cindy was born on November 17, 1970 in Joliet, Illinois to the late Sammy and Veronica (Kosack) Cartelli. She grew up in Joliet, Illinois.  She was loved by family and friends from the day she was born.  Cindy started her education early at The Kennedy Center in Joliet Illinois in 1973.  She went through the public school system, in Joliet’s special education program.  She attended Joliet Central High School, graduating on May 22nd,1992.  Through the Central High work program, she worked at Bob Evans Restaurant for 17 years.

Cindy’s life in Joliet was filled with the love of family and friends.  Cindy was actively involved in Joliet’s Special Recreation Program She participated in many of their activities including dances for every holiday, a prom in the spring, bowling, track, badminton, pizza parties, bingo etc.  Swimming was her favorite activity.  It was through the Special Rec program, that she qualified for the International Special Olympics, held in the Twin Cities July 17-28, 1991.  The entire team, along with teams from across the world stayed together at the dormitories at the U of M campus, in Minneapolis.  Her swim meets were held in the Olympic size pool.  What fun she must have had!  For many summers Cindy also had the pleasure of a week stay at the Walcamp outdoor ministry.  Arts, crafts, singing, roasting marshmallows by the fire, swimming and prayer service were the activities they offered.

Cindy’s other activities and hobbies in Joliet included being a Eucharistic Minister at Sacred Heart Church and volunteering at Sunny Hill nursing home, with her mom, Vernie.  Cindy became a proud aunt, to Avery Cartelli, in September of 1993 and often said “Hey, that’s my niece”!  One of her favorite things in life was going out to dinner with family and friends.  Many bowls of fettucine alfredo were consumed at Barollo’s Restaurant.

In March of 2021, Cindy moved to Minnesota to be closer to Diane, Andrea and Avery. She lived with Diane and Andrea until December 2021.  In December of 2021, Cindy moved to Hope Residence, where she found an additional family who would come to love her for the beautiful woman she was.  Hope brought more than the activities she loved. They brought her a family, who saw into her heart and soul and loved her for who she was. They surrounded her with love, joy, kisses and hugs just as her family of origin did.  Her parents would be so pleased to know Cindy was surrounded in love until she took her last breath.

Cindy was proceeded in death by her grandparents, parents, her 2 brothers, Jerry and Tom, and many aunts, uncles and loving cousins.

She is survived by her sister, Diane (Andrea Wicevic) Cartelli of Roseville, Minnesota and her niece Avery Cartelli (Abbie Lecy), of Columbia Heights, Minnesota.

Her interment will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery, in Joliet, IL, April 6th, 2024.
